If you’re planning an engagement session with a dog and want inspiration for winter, Karee and Thomas’ session in Old Salem is for you! With snow covering the historic streets and their sweet doodle, Winston, by their side, this session felt like a winter wonderland.
We originally planned to head to the mountains, but a winter storm changed our plans. Instead, we embraced the snow and explored Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC, which was the perfect backdrop with snow-dusted streets and historic charm. Old Salem is one of our favorite spots because of its timeless brick sidewalks, colonial-era architecture, and quiet corners that photograph beautifully in every season — but especially when it’s dusted with snow. The historic buildings, fences, and trees created a cozy winter vibe that brought so much personality to Karee and Thomas’s engagement session.
If you’re looking for a location that feels both historic and beautiful year-round, Old Salem is a gem. Its brick streets, charming buildings, and wide open fields offer so much variety for photos. Whether you want romantic shots, playful moments, or cozy cuddles, Old Salem has it all. And if you happen to catch a rare snow day like Karee and Thomas, it becomes a magical winter scene straight out of a storybook.
Including a dog in your engagement session can make your photos even more personal and fun! Karee and Thomas brought along Winston, their adorable doodle, who proudly wore a “Save the Date” bandana. To make things easier, they also brought family along to help wrangle Winston when we wanted dog-free shots. If you’re thinking about bringing your furry friend along, here are a few helpful tips:
We wanted this session to feel joyful and true to Karee and Thomas. So we added lots of fun prompts — playing tag, piggyback rides, and even a snowball fight! Winston joined in on the fun and was a star in front of the camera. Using playful prompts like these helps create natural, candid photos that capture genuine emotion. Instead of stiff posing, prompts give you something fun to do, which leads to authentic smiles, laughter, and sweet moments together. Whether it’s a spontaneous snowball toss or a quiet moment holding hands, prompts allow us to document the real connection between you and your partner.
If you’re dreaming of an engagement session with a dog — whether in Old Salem or another favorite location — we’re here to help make it fun, stress-free, and memorable. Reach out to learn more about our engagement photography and how we can include your pup in your love story!
