Downtown Winston-Salem is one of our favorite places to photograph! Being a Photographer in the Triad means knowing how to find the best places downtown and working the light to your advantage.

To celebrate their anniversary and Derek’s upcoming graduation, Callie booked us for a short session in Downtown Winston-Salem. One of our favorite spots is this rooftop! You get such an amazing view of the city. And the light is also so good up here. I hope this year holds many more rooftop sessions!

Callie and Derek made our job so easy. We loved capturing their awesome chemistry and style. If you want to make your photographer excited – show up looking sharp! When our clients show up in outfits that make them look confident and polished, we know the rest of the session is going to go well. We also took a few single photographs of Derek so he would have some updated headshots to use after graduation. He just looked too good in his suit jacket to not take advantage of it!

Another small piece of photography advice – don’t be afraid of an overcast day. Callie was a bit concerned about the possibility of spring storms, but thankfully the rain held off. The clouds act as a natural diffuser and give beautiful even light across the background and the subject. This really allows your colors to pop! The trick is – have the subject face toward the sun so you don’t get dark shadows around the eyes.
