I drive by Willstella Farm at least one once per week. From the road the graceful farm house is unassuming and looks like many of the farmhouses that line the roads in Kernersville. But one of my jobs as a photographer is to notice the details most people just drive by. Next to the house is an ornate iron gate that leads to the back of the property. There you find a large oak tree where lights have been strung. Looking past that you see a large barn that is still home to a few goats and donkey, but the silo has been converted to a bar. Next to the barn and silo has been erected a large pavilion where graceful chandeliers hang from the ceiling. This family farm has become a place where families gather and celebrate the most joyous times of their life.
My friend Brandy of Beyond Special Events told me she had taken on a special role at Willstella Farms as the wedding coordinator and that she had a few ideas for editorial shoots she would like to do. The one that stood out to me was an Anne of Green Gables inspired wedding. That little farm house on the side of the road suddenly became the setting of an endearing love story. We wanted this editorial shoot to be special and feature only the best vendors that were local to Kernersville. Our goal was to show all of the amazing talent that is right here in our small town.
The bride’s look is modern take on the Edwardian silhouette of the early 1900’s. When I approached Nichole at Magnolia Bride with this vision, she had the perfect dress. This gorgeous gown had just arrived in her shop when I contacted her and she graciously allowed us to borrow it for this shoot. Continuing the modern twist on the Gibson Girl look Laura at Pins and Curls Bridal Updos created a beautiful braided updo while Sarah at SMG Beauty Co kept the make-up soft, natural, and rosy. The groom’s tux was provided by Southern Bride. You can find the bride’s lace boots and groom’s page boy hat here and here on Amazon.
Tiffany at Pixie Dust Floral Design chose a mix of seasonal wildflowers flor the bouquet and floral installation along the trunk of the large oak tree behind the house. We chose this spot as the location for our ceremony. Printology Press (our only non-Kernersville vendor) designed the invitation suite and Cake and All Things Yummy crafted the delicate cake. Twice Loved Vintage provided the antique pieces for our cake stand, tables, chairs, and place settings. And last, but definitely not least, Giada’s laid out a delicious charcuterie board for our picnic setting.
Another of our favorite Kernersville Venues is Cuddle Creek Farm. You can see more of it here.
