Brennan called us just a couple of weeks before Christmas after searching for Hanging Rock engagement photographers. He is the military and was coming home for Christmas and wanted to make it extra special for his girlfriend Lena – he wanted to propose to her on the cliffs of Hanging Rock State Park. This was where they had their first date and Brennan thought it would be the perfect spot to propose.
We love calls like this! If you ask Josh, every proposal story reminds him of proposing to me, so these are his favorite types of sessions. He and Brennan immediately began planning. For a surprise proposal to work – you have to plan ahead.
Our schedule was tight, so we settled on the afternoon of Christmas Eve. They wanted to make it to the top just before sunset. Brennan’s cover story was that he wanted Christmas photos with Lena at their favorite spot – the cliffs of Hanging Rock. The plan was almost ruined when Lena saw the reminder email on Brennan’s phone, but Josh quickly texted to make Brennan’s cover wasn’t blown and that the proposal would still remain a surprise.
On the day of the shoot, they met at the trailhead and slowly worked their way to the top, making sure to stop for photographs along the way. At the top, Brennan requested a specific photo with him down on one knee behind Lena. Josh helped guide them into those poses and she had no idea what was about to happen!
When the big moment finally came, Lena was stunned! She said she had no idea that Brennan was going to pop the question. Of course she said yes! And miraculously what had been a cloudy day suddenly faded into a warm, golden sunset. This plan for a surprise proposal at the top of Hanging Rock had worked! We can’t wait to see where this adventure takes them.
