Charlotte and Marilyn Joined Us on Their Campuses to Have the Best College Graduation Portrait Session

Graduating from college is a significant accomplishment. Having a college graduation portrait session is an excellent way to commemorate this momentous occasion. However, it can be overwhelming to decide how to make your graduation portraits stand out from the rest. To help you make the most out of your photo session, we’ve compiled five tips to help you have the best graduation portrait experience.

1. Choose a meaningful location

The location of your graduation portraits can add depth and meaning to your photos. Consider choosing a spot that is significant to you or that represents your time in college. Charlotte, a Wake Forest University graduate, chose to take her photos on campus in front of Wait Chapel. This location held a special place in her heart as she spent countless hours studying and attending lectures there.

Marilyn, a University of North Carolina Greensboro graduate, chose a nearby park that she often visited during her college years. The beautiful greenery and natural scenery made for some stunning backdrops.

2. Dress to impress

Your graduation photos are an important moment, so it’s essential to dress appropriately. Choose an outfit that you feel confident and comfortable in but also aligns with the style of your location. If you’re taking photos downtown, you may want to dress up, whereas a more casual outfit may be better suited for a park or outdoor area.

Marilyn chose a classic white dress that complemented the beautiful architecture on campus. Charlotte also chose a classic white dress, but also wore a second outfit to capture photos with her dog. Planning a longer shoot can give you time to wear more than one outfit.

3. Bring accessories and props

Adding a prop or accessory can make your graduation portraits more personal and unique. Consider bringing your graduation cap and gown, a book that represents your major, or a fun accessory that represents your personality or interests.

Charlotte brought heart-shaped sunglasses that added a fun and playful element to her photos. She also brought her dog, who added an adorable touch and made for some memorable shots.

4. Get your hair and makeup done

Getting your hair and makeup done by a professional or doing it yourself can make you feel more confident and camera-ready.

5. Be yourself and have fun

The most important thing to remember during your graduation portrait session is to be yourself and have fun. These photos are a celebration of your achievements and a reflection of your unique personality and journey through college. Don’t be afraid to laugh, dance, or be silly if it feels natural.

Charlotte and Marilyn both had a blast during their portrait sessions, which helped them relax and feel comfortable in front of the camera. The result was a collection of stunning portraits that they will cherish for years to come.

We're Josh & Alisha

Just two lovebirds, enjoying everyday life.

Photographers. Artists. Creatives. Parents to two. Nerds. Foodies. Lovers. Friends.

We have been friends since 2006, married since 2008, and capturing memories through photography since 2010. The years of experience in all three make us uniquely qualified to tell your budding love story. If the years have taught us anything, its that fulfilling, long-lasting marriages have a foundation of friendship, and are built with joy - and perhaps quite a few carbs!

We strive to help you feel confident during your big day, and not awkward or stressed - so you can look back on joyful memories that tell your love story.

MORE ABOUT US

Hi! I'm Alisha!

I'm so excited you're here!

In addition to being a lady-boss photographer, I am a wife, a mom, a teacher and a follower of Jesus. Those things are the center of everything about who I am, what I do, and how I do it. That means I believe in how important family is, whether you are just starting your own, or are celebrating all of those special milestones. Josh and I have been married for over 12 years and photographing weddings and families for over 10 of those years. Our style has evolved over time, but we love capturing images that are bright, colorful, and tell the most important story - yours!

When we are not shooting, I love going on adventures with our two beautiful girls, trying new recipes, or catching up on my favorite shows with my hubby.

MORE ABOUT US

Hi! I'm Josh!

I want to capture your day!

Having the opportunity to live in a town as beautiful as Kernersville, NC is great. Being able to be here with Alisha is even better. I've been married over twelve years to the love of my life and for most of that time we have worked closely as wedding photographers. Because of this, we have a unique outlook on the wedding experience. Having the opportunity to find the joy and love in that special day and share it with you and your family and friends is the best thing about what I do. That's why I never miss getting a photo of the groom's face when he sees his bride for the first time.

When I don't have a camera in my hands, I enjoy coffee dates and car-sushi with my bride, board games before bed, and binge watching Netflix.
