Lauryn and Luke Celebrated with Us During their Winter Engagement Session at Rough Ridge near Banner Elk North Carolina
Winter Engagement Sessions can be a lot of fun, especially when you venture out to an epic location like Rough Ridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is one of our favorite spots on the Parkway because you can’t beat these amazing views! Rough Ridge doesn’t require a long hike to reach breathtaking peaks, making it easy to get to for photography sessions.
When deciding when to schedule an engagement session, winter is not always at the top of people’s minds. There are some drawbacks, most notably being the cold. While that can be a concern, we like to overcome that with wardrobe choices and lots and lots of snuggling! There was plenty of that during Luke and Lauryn’s session.
If you are thinking of scheduling a session on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the winter, it can be a fun, beautiful experience. Here are some tips when planning your session:
Check for road closures – higher elevations can be subject to more extreme weather. The Parkway will shut down when road conditions become icy and dangerous. Click here for BRP Road Updates
Check the weather – like I said before, higher elevations tend to be colder and windier. Check the weather to see what the weather will be like and dress in layers
Stay warm – bring an extra blanket to wrap up in between shots, or use it as a cozy prop. Also consider bringing a thermos of hot chocolate or cider – this can also double as a great prop
Chapstick is your friend – Bring your favorite lip balm for you and your hunny. The cold will dry out your lips fast!
Wear sturdy shoes – you can always change into more fashionable shoes when you get to your location, but sturdy shoes are a must when hiking to your location
Leave no trace – any time you are out on the Parkway, or any of our parks, please practice leave no trace. Nature is worth protecting, so anything that you take into nature, please take back with you.
